Say Hello To Our Sustainable Fabrics

Here at Terrera, we are proud to use sustainable fabrics and low-impact dyes that are better for you and for our earth. Read on to learn more about our natural, organic fabrics that we use in our clothing and bedding.

Organic Viscose from Bamboo

Bamboo is one of the most durable and resource-efficient plants in the world. It releases 30% more oxygen into the atmosphere and absorbs more carbon dioxide compared to other plants. We use OCIA certified organic bamboo that is grown without chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides, which makes it a more sustainable choice for the environment.

What are some other amazing benefits of bamboo?

  • Gentle and soft on the skin
  • Naturally anti-bacterial
  • Odor-resistant
  • Stretchy and durable
  • Biodegradable
  • Hypoallergenic, perfect for those with skin sensitivities

Organic Cotton

We love our premium organic cotton because it is more eco-friendly than conventional cotton. Producing organic cotton fabric uses less water, less energy, and releases fewer greenhouse gasses.

It’s an incredibly soft and durable fabric, which makes it perfect for those with skin sensitivities. We currently use our certified cotton in our soft denim-knit pieces, like our jeggings!

Tencel

Tencel is one of the most sustainable fabrics in the world. It’s a type of lyocell that’s produced from sustainably sourced wood by environmentally responsible processes. A closed loop process is used, where up to 99% of the chemical is continually recycled, minimizing our impact on the environment and preserving energy and water.

Tencel is also biodegradable. A perfect warm-weather fabric, Tencel is breathable, which makes it less susceptible to odorous bacteria growth. Our 100% tencel printed tops and dresses are flowy, smooth, and comfortable to wear.

Low-Impact Dyes

Our factories were carefully selected for their built-in infrastructure to recycle water and reduce the amount of chemicals used in creating viscose. We use a ‘closed-loop’ process to recycle water and recapture the chemicals used to process bamboo. We also only use non-toxic, hypo-allergenic, and Oeko-tex 100 certified dyes to colour our fabrics.

Our low-impact dyes contains no toxic chemicals or mordants (which fix the dye to the fabric). They require less rinsing and water usage, and have a high absorption rate in the fabric, which makes it a better choice for people and our planet.
